Clinic fails good service

Phillipus van Zyl (43) visited the Springs Clinic for treatment and was allegedly badly treated and insulted by the staff last Monday.

When he arrived at 12.30pm, he knocked on the window of the reception area, asking for emergency assistance with an open wound on his left forearm.

The staff member behind the counter allegedly started to verbally insult him.

“I went home to fetch my tablet to record the conversation and when I arrived back at the clinic the insults continued,” he says.

He claims a senior male staff member told him “you will wait you &#@ white man”.

After recording the conversation and informing the clinic staff he was going to report the matter to the Addie, the same staff member allegedly laughed at him and stuck out his tongue at Van Zyl.

Van Zyl went to the sister in charge to report the incident and to see if she was able to help him.

He claims she helped him by cleaning his wound and allegedly asked him not to go to the Addie.

Meanwhile Van Zyl went to a hospital for treatment and received 12 stitches to the wound on his arm.

He is scared to go back to the clinic to have the stitches removed in a few days as he is not sure how he will be treated.

The Addie has sent questions regarding the incident to the metro including the video recording taken by Van Zyl.

Despite being given a week to do so, the metro has failed to comment on the allegations but has indicated that the query has been sent to the relevant department.
