Five rules for taking down a Christmas tree

Taking down a Christmas tree is probably one of the worst parts of the end of the festive season, one most people put off until the last minute, signalling the end of a relaxing holiday and a new year which can bring more challenges or new beginnings.

There is a lot of speculation about when it is the right time to take your Christmas tree down.

The most common dates are between January 5 and 7.

Depressing as it is, the job needs to get done and cannot be left until next Christmas.

Taking down a Christmas tree doesn’t need to be a hassle or difficult task.

Here are 10 rules for easily taking down a Christmas tree:

  • Retrace your steps

Start by working backwards, removing the items put last on the tree to decorate.

If anything was arranged at the bottom of the tree, start by removing those first and packing it away.

This way, when you need to put up the tree next year, all the decorations will be in order as they need to be put up.

  • Soft landing

Try removing the tree at a place that is not too high or put towels or pillows underneath.

This could save an ornament if it accidentally fell, accidents happen.

  • Keep the tree lit as you disassemble it

By doing this, you can spot if there are any light bulbs that have blown.

  • Don’t let the lights knot

When removing the lights, make sure you roll the cords up neatly around your arm and secure it by using cables ties or rope.

This will eliminate any frustration for the following year when you need to put the Christmas tree up.

  • Flatten each branch of the artificial tree

Gently flatten the tree’s branches to store it neatly in its box or safe packaging for when next Christmas arrives.
