Look out for scams

It is that time of the year when many people end up being victims of scam schemes by criminals.

Residents should make sure that they don’t fall for these scams that come with the festive season.

Just because this time of the year is known as the season of giving, does not mean you should be giving away your personal information and details to strangers and people pretending to be from well known companies.

In fact, it should be a time where you should be inspecting everything more carefully and verifying with the companies before giving away your life.

Yes, it might cost a little more money and time, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

So, if you receive an e-mail, SMS or instant message that appears to come from a well known business, saying you have won something, and asking you to verify your details or to click onto a link or download an attachment, make sure you first check it out before being lured into the scheme.

Failure to do so might result in you being directed to the hands of thieves or a fraudulent website where you might be asked to provide details which are used to access your accounts, attachments containing a virus or giving criminals ways to access your computer and your personal information.
