Springs Taxi Association boss brutally killed

Springs Taxi Association chairman Velly Mbatha was killed at his home in KwaThema, in the late hours of Sunday evening,

According to the KwaThema police spokesperson, David Mphali, the incident took place at about 10 pm on Sunday.

“Mbatha had just arrived home with his wife in the evening, she got out of the car and went inside the yard.

“A few minutes later the wife heard gun shots and when she went to go and check on her husband, she found him shot while still in the car.

“Police and an ambulance were called to the scene, but the victim was declared dead on the scene by paramedics,” says Mphali.

He adds that at the moment this seems like it was a hit as Mbatha was shot six times and nothing was taken from him or the car.

No arrests have been made, but a case of murder has been opened at the KwaThema Police Station.

Mphali says the case has been taken over by the SAPS provincial investigation unit and anyone with information is requested to call the police on 10111.
