Hadassah reaches out to children

Endicott resident Doret "Hadassah" Meyer (56) treated 28 children from Endicott to a Christmas lunch on Saturday.

The children had a ball playing on the equipment at a restaurant at Springsgate.

“To see the enjoyment on their faces was overwhelming,” says Hadassah.

She started reaching out to needy families and children when she and her family moved to Endicott 11 years ago.

“Upon living there I realised how many children are disadvantaged and how many families are dire need of food and clothes,” she says.

She established where the need was the highest and offered her help to try and bring comfort where necessary.

This became her calling and she delivers vegetables to the disadvantaged weekly.

She mends the clothes she receives as donations, washes and sorts them into different sizes.

When she takes the clothes to the families, she also takes their curtains and broken flower pots home to be fixed.

She believes everyone can make a difference.

Hadassah is grateful to the restaurant that sponsored the lunch.

On Christmas Day she will be handing out Christmas gifts at the Kwazenzele Informal Settlement as well as the children she already knows.

“I have also decided to brighten up the children’s birthdays from 2016 by sponsoring a cake and spoil them with a gift,” she concludes.
