Be aware of imposters

A family of three were tied up during a house robbery in Forrest Road, Selection Park, while robbers, pretending to be Ekurhuleni Metro workers, ransacked the house last Thursday.

Two of the victims were watching TV when they heard someone calling at the front door.

One of them went to investigate and saw a man standing at the door, wearing a reflector jacket.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the man noticed two more suspects, one of whom pointed a gun at him.

When the third victim, who was outside hanging the washing, noticed what was going on, she called her husband.

The robbers tied all the victims up and searched the house.

Ramphora says the robbers took a laptop, two tablets, two cellphones and a wedding ring, which they loaded into one of the victims’ cars and drove off.

“Once again we would like to warn the community to be vigilant about people pretending to be Telkom, Eskom and municipal workers,” says Ramphora.

Many cases of house robberies have been reported at the police station where the robbers pretended to be workers of the above-mentioned organisations.

Ramphora says it is vital that the community members ask for proper identification from people posing to be workers from companies.
