Metro cleans up sewage mess

A sewage blockage in Limpopo Crescent, Petersfield, has finally been fixed.

It was reported in last week’s Addie, ‘Unsightly waste in drain’ how resident Edwin Drier (74) had to live with the smell of sewage, which was overflowing from a drain on his property.

According to Ekurhuleni Metro spokesman, Themba Gadebe, the flooding was caused by a burst pipe in the main drain, which they have repaired.

A team was also sent to clean Drier’s flooded property and to clean the drain.

Gadebe adds the municipality is currently experiencing a problem in the area due to a collapsed manhole.

“The metro is working to restore the manhole, which may take some time due to geological conditions on site,” he says.

“We are working on the problem to find a lasting solution.”

The metro will also reinstate the old pump station.
