Helping abused women

A good Samaritan has taken it upon herself to help abused women in Springs.

Janine Rudwick (30), who lives in Presidents Dam, was inspired when she saw an idea on a social media platform.

“Almost every woman has an old handbags lying around and taking up space in the cupboard,” she says.

“Why not take those bags and fill them with items that other women do not have the luxury of having?”

Janine explains that items such as a facecloth, towel, sanitary items, soap, cream and deodorant will be gratefully accepted.

“This may seem like basic items for some people, but for these women who have been through a lot, these ‘goodies’ may make their lives better.

“This will help a woman in need and can make her feel better to know there is help out there.”

Janine will make the first donation of handbags to the SpringsCare Centre.

“This centre helps many abused women and troubled families, but we are also looking for other places in Springs to donate to if we can make this work,” she says.

“They get all these items and to top it all up, they can have a nice handbag to go with it, any woman wants a handbag.”

Janine is actively involved with the Trinity Methodist Church, helping many people in various ways and has now set this new challenge for herself.

All donations can be dropped off at Janine’s office at 2 Tinktinkie Crescent, President’s View Unit 17, Presidents Dam, or at the Trinity Methodist Church in Lodeyko.

“I can also arrange with residents and come to collect the handbags,” she adds.

Janine says people are also welcome to only donate handbags.

“Every bit helps,” she says.
