Overflowing drain poses health risk

Living with the smell of an overflowing drain is not something Petersfield resident Edwin Drier (74) is happy about.

Drier says they have had to remove used sanitary towels, small toys and toilet paper from the drain.

He lives in Limpopo Crescent and reported the sewage spill in his backyard to the Ekurhuleni Metro for the first time last Tuesday.

Drier received a reference number and was hoping the metro would fix it on the same day but the metro never came out to his residence.

Each time Drier reports the overflowing drain he receives a different reference number but the problem remains unfixed.

The only response he received during one of the calls was “oh, it must be blocked somewhere”.

“Raw sewage pushes up into the toilet, shower and basins when used,” he says.

The drain is constantly overflowing and sewage is running down the street.

No comment was received from the metro at the time of going to print.
