Lighting up lives on Diwali

The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs accepted donations for their annual Give a Tray on Diwali Day at the open field opposite the Bakerton Community Centre on Wednesday.

“The community gives each other sweets and homemade baked goods on Diwali (Festival of Lights), and what we do every year is collect these from the community and take them to the less fortunate,” says chairman of the initiative, Kesavan Pillay.

Diwali was celebrated on the same day and the community used this opportunity to donate food.

Kesavan says it is absolutely wonderful to see the community open their hearts to those in need.

The food was donated to the Springs and KwaThema Child Welfare Society by the Bhairavi Sungum of Springs on behalf of the Bakerton community.
