Charity joint venture

A joint charity venture in preparation of 16 Days of Activism.

Police and community organisations decided to join hands for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign by sorting donated clothes at the Auxano Seventh Day Adventist Day church premises on Tuesday.

The police units and organisations that participated are the SAPS Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit and Corporate Communications, Bible Biker Ministries, Wild Wild Guardians, Mad Rage Against Child Abuse, Hi5Kids Recovery Unit and the Auxano church.

According to Amanda Greybe, from SAPS Corporate Communications, this project is in preparation of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, which takes place between November 25 and December 16.

The plan is to give back to the community by giving the donated clothes to people in need.

The project was initiated two weeks ago and within this short period of time, the community and Casseldale and Geduld CPFs donated baby, children and adult clothing.

More donations, in the form of clothes for children and adults, educational toys and soft toys, are also expected.

Amanda says they will use the same premises to sort the clothes and are grateful to Gert Vermaak from Bible Bikers Ministries for organising the use of the church.

Hi5Kids will host an awareness campaign at 10am on November 21, at Stable Inn, where a 16 Days of Activism emblem will be on sale for only R10.

Amanda says the white and blue ribbons on the emblem represent woman abuse (white) and children abuse (blue).

The proceeds received for the sale of this 16 Days of Activism emblem will be used to plough back to the community.

Money raised will go towards the community outreach project which will take place on December 6 at the Auxano Church, corner Third Street and First Avenue, Geduld, opposite Olympia Park School.

The event starts at 10am and food will be served at noon.

On this day the community will receive clothes and toys and the children will be able to enjoy games and a jumping castle.

If anyone wants to donate food towards this project, contact Henry Harber on 082 805 3568.

“We urge the community to assist us in making this project a success,” says Amanda.
