Nursing students graduate

Nursing students from Life East Region Learning Centre were honoured at the recent graduation ceremony held at the centre.

There were 98 students from all over Ekurhuleni who graduated at the centre in Springs Extension.

Regional awards were awarded to students who obtained the highest overall mark of 75% or above throughout their studies for a diploma in general nursing and a certificate leading to enrolment as a nurse.

With an average mark of 84%, Springs resident Amanda Small, who works at Suikerbosrand Clinic, received the Chief Operational Executive Officer Inland Award.

Jennnifer Pillay, Learning Centre manager, says this award goes to the student with the highest overall mark in the diploma in medical and surgical nursing science.

Amanda also received the award for the best theoretical and clinical performance by an enrolled nursing student with an average mark of 84%.

Life Springs Parkland Hospital employee, Nike Oduntan, received the Leadership Award.

Jennifer says Nike was recognised for her leadership abilities and her inspiration to teachers and colleagues through her honest approach.

“She demonstrated competence and showed intelligent behaviour in teaching and learning situations,’ she says.

Another Parkland employee, Rose Vambe, received the Caring and Compassion Award.

This award goes to someone recognised by patients, colleagues and teachers for their consistent and gentle approach.

Rose developed a sense of trust through her performance, pride and excellence in service delivery.

Petunia Moorosi, Nike Oduntan and Elsie Songo, all from Springs Life Parkland Hospital, graduated cum laude.

Springs Life Parkland Hospital student Joyce Temba was recognised as a great nurse in life healthcare and was nominated by her peers for practising her profession with pride

Joyce is one of 11 students recognised for upholding the professional image of nursing and who enjoys the respect of her colleagues.

“She is a compassionate caregiver who demonstrates clinical competence and embraces change,” says Jennifer.
