Jan Smuts Road open to traffic

Construction to Jan Smuts Road at the new Springs Mall has come to an end and will be open to traffic on Friday.

This comes after it was closed for a R14-million upgrade by the owners and developers of Springs Mall at Blue Crane Eco Park next to the N17 freeway.

Paul Gerard, managing director of Flanagan and Gerard Property Development and Investment, says they are happy to announce that the upgrade and realignment of Jan Smuts Road, which runs along the northern side of the mall, is now complete.

The road upgrade was approved as part of the R950-m development of the new mall which is currently under construction.

With the upgrade of of this road now complete, road users will benefit from the major road improvements.

The road becomes a dual carriage way from the Wit Road intersection to the first entrance to the new mall.

Paul says Clydesdale Circle is also being upgraded to allow more free flow movement.

The realignment has improved the visibility and safety of the road.

“Jan Smuts Road also has more street lighting, contributing to the safety of the road for both motorists and pedestrians,” he says.

The new road upgrades of Jan Smuts and Wit roads, Clydesdale Circle and the Zig Zag Road intersections will improve traffic flow and is one of the additional benefits that the new 45,000m² regional shopping centre development is bringing to the area,” he adds.

The new mall is a major investment in Springs and is set to open in March 2017.
