Metro officials threatened by ‘violent group’

Services will fully resume in the second week of November.

The Lesedi Local Municipality says a ‘violent group’ is the reason for insufficient service delivery in Endicott and Aston Lake.

This follows a story published in the Addie on October 29 about a lack of service delivery to residents of the area. SeeĀ Service delivery lacking in Endicott.

Arthur Thokoane, spokesman for the municipality, confirms that service delivery has indeed been lacking for the past five months.

“Service delivery has been inconsistent in the Vischkuil and Endicott areas recently,” he says.

“This is due to a violent ‘concerned group’ in the area.

“The group is threatening the lives of municipal employees, threatening to torch municipal properties and vehicles, and consequently the refuse collection team could not be dispatched as per normal schedule to the area until such uproar and threats dissipate.”

In addition to refuse not being removed, various residents were concerned about burst water pipes in the area, which had not been attended to despite numerous complaints to the municipality.

“The burst pipes have been fixed and at the moment there are no outstanding repairs,” says Thokoane.

He concludes by saying that negotiations with the concerned groups are at an advanced stage and services will fully resume in the second week of November.
