Man arrested for unlicensed rifle

Three men were arrested by the Springs SAPS Crime Prevention Unit in the Everest informal settlement on Wednesday.

Two illegal immigrants were arrested, while the third was nabbed for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, officers received information from community members about three men in possession of a gun.

“Officers proceeded to the informal settlement at 2.50pm and found the suspects,” he says.

One was arrested for possession of an unlicensed .22 rifle and the other two for being in the country illegally.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 37 years, were taken to the Springs police cells.

“The two illegal immigrants will be taken to the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Krugersdorp,” adds Ramphora.
