Beware of thieves at intersections

Springs police have issued a warning to alert the public of an increase in theft from vehicles at intersections.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, several cases have been reported this week where people have stolen items from the back of bakkies (without canopies), while the vehicle is stopped at traffic lights.

He says the thieves grab whatever is on the back of the bakkie and run away.

Stolen goods include tools, equipment and even groceries.

“It is imperative that people should be vigilant when they stop at traffic lights, as well as stop streets,” he says.

To prevent these thefts, Ramphora suggests fitting a canopy or canvas cover to the bakkie.
