Rev believes faith can put an end to crime

In the light of the rampant crime, the community needs to ask what can be done and how they can assist the police in fighting crime.

Reverend Scott Manning, from the Trinity Methodist Church, asks what solutions the faith community has to offer?

He believes the only viable solution rests in a person’s own heart.

Law is really important in any country and since the Ten Commandments, people have found creative ways to interpret the law for their own benefit, or outright ignore the law.

“Simply if I want to obey the law, I will find a way, and the converse is true, if I don’t want to obey the law I will also find a way,” he says.

A moral compass is needed to guide people back to doing the right things.

“If we let each person choose which moral code they want to follow, the result is anarchy,” he says.

The church and the word of God can provide the moral compass that not only sets the right course for people to follow, but inspires them to want to follow.

He believes through SpringsCare‘s feeding programme, which distributes over 750 000 meals a year, they are combating crime, through feeding the hungry and helping children concentrate on getting a good education

“Through prayer and supporting your local churches and charities we can fight crime and make a difference,” he concludes.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora suggests the community should report crime and fall in with the community structures such as the local community police forums.

“It is important for people to know the contact numbers for the SAPS sector vehicles and the police station,” he adds.

Report crime to the following numbers:
