House robber tries to cut off victims’ toes

An armed robber tried to cut off his victims' toes during a house robbery in Gugulethu on Thursday.

Four men wearing balaclavas broke into the house in Mandela Street just after midnight.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, the four suspects gained entry by kicking the back door open.

The robbers fired two shots and ordered the two occupants of the house to lie on the floor.

The men demanded cash and dagga.

Ramphora says the occupants told the robbers the owner of the house wasn’t there and they didn’t know where the money was kept.

One of the robbers assaulted the pair with a stick and tried to cut off their toes with a pair of side cutters.

The occupants were then tied up with rope.

A generator, speaker, DVD player and cash to the value of R9 230 was taken by the robbers, before the ran away.
