Caldeira dies in accident in Nigel

Well-known Springs businessman Manny Caldeira died in an accident at about 9.40pm, on the R51 (the meeting of the Nigel, Springs and Dunattor roads) on Wednesday.

Caldeira was the owner of Strubenvale Pick n Pay.

According to Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Services spokesman William Ntladi, says preliminary information on the scene states that the driver of the BMW crashed into the side of an Interlink truck at the Vetsak intersection (known by this name due to the vetsak factory which used to be at this intersection) and died instantly.

When the paramedics and rescue teams from Nigel arrived on the scene Caldeira was unresponsive and still trapped behind the steering wheel of his vehicle.

Members of the Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Services used the jaws of life to get the body out of the vehicle.

The driver of the truck was unharmed but treated for shock by the paramedics.

The cause of the crash is still undetermined and the EMPD are still investigating the case.
