Robbers pose as council workers

Springs police have issued a warning to residents to be alert of house robbers posing as council workers

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, more than one house robbery has taken place recently where the perpetrators claimed to be from the municipality.

“They say they are there to read the electricity meter and as soon as they gain entry, they tie up their victims and rob the house,” says Ramphora.

Police have established that five men, travelling in a white Corsa and a white Ford Bantam bakkie, are involved.

Ramphora urges residents to never allow anyone onto their property without proper identification

He requested members of the public to be on the look-out for the vehicles.

“If you see these cars, contact the police immediately on 011 365 5700/19/20,” says Ramphora.

Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Metro spokesman, says the metro pleads with residents to ensure that they insist on identification before allowing anyone into their properties.

“Any employee or contractor of the municipality will have an identification card with the person’s relevant details such as their name and what kind of job they do,” he adds.
