Two shebeens closed during police operation

A successful Springs police operation was held in Kwazenzele, Endicott and Gugulethu informal settlements on Friday.

This operation was held between 10am and 2pm, and two illegal shebeens were closed in Kwazenzele informal settlement.

A man paid an admission of guilt fine of R1 500 for selling alcohol without a licence.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says they also seized 17 cases of alcohol, 10 speakers and an amplifier.

During the same operation, a stop-and-search was conducted where 10 vehicles were searched for drugs and firearms.

Although nothing was found during these searches, Ramphora wants the community to know that the police mean business.
