Woman held captive and raped

A man (age unknown) was arrested in the Everest informal settlement for holding a woman captive and repeatedly raping her.

On Saturday, the woman and her boyfriend were involved in an argument with other people and decided to walk home.

On their way home, they were approached by a group of men and four woman.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the victim claims two of the men grabbed her and when her boyfriend tried to intervene, he was hit over the head with a beer bottle.

The woman was allegedly threatened with a knife and taken to a nearby shack at 2.30am, where she was raped by both men.

Ramphora says one of the men left the shack and the other continued to rape the woman.

At 8pm on Sunday, the man allegedly released her and gave her R40 for a taxi to get home.

She went to the police station to report the crime.

Ramphora says the woman took police to the shack and while en route, she recognised one of the men walking along the street.The man was arrested.
