Man injured in suspected hit-and-run

A man was critically injured in a suspected hit-and-run in Lodeyko on Sunday.

A Rescue 24 Ambulance Service crew was driving along Wit Road in Lodeyko, towards Selcourt, when they noticed the man lying on the side of the road.

According to Marie Pretorius, Rescue 24 Ambulance Service administrator, they stopped at the scene and found the unconscious man with severe head injuries and in a critical condition.

It is believed that the man was struck by a vehicle.

The crew contacted the Life Springs Parkland Hospital’s response vehicle for assistance.

Paramedics stabilised the man and transported him to the Life Springs Parkland Hospital, where he was airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg.

No details of the vehicle involved is known.

“All we know about the patient is that he was on his way to seek employment,” says Pretorius.
