Domestic worker tied up by house robbers

A domestic worker was tied up and her employer's house was robbed by two men pretending to be electricity meter readers.

The incident took place at an address in Bulwer Road, Geduld Extention, on Thursday.

The domestic worker heard someone at the gate at 9.30am and went to investigate.

She was greeted by two men, who informed her they were there to read the electricity meter.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says one of the men pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the woman, forcing her to let them in.

The two men bound the woman with rope and started searching the house.

A third man arrived at the house in a white Ford Bantam LDV.

The three men loaded a TV, microwave and digital safe, containing approximately R10 000 in cash as well as jewellery, into the vehicle.

They also took the woman’s handbag containing R350 in cash and her cellphone, before jumping into the vehicle and fleeing.

Ramphora says after the men left, the woman started screaming for help and a neighbour came to her rescue.

He adds a case of house robbery has been opened at the police station.
