Business robbers tie up guard, steal two vehicles

An alarm signal warned a security guard on duty, that something was wrong in Wright Road, Nuffield, on Thursday.

He was on duty in the guard room at 7.30pm when the alarm went off.

The guard went to investigate but could not find anything wrong and returned to the guard room.

Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says it was when the guard returned to the guard room that he was surprised by two armed suspects.

The one suspect pointed his gun at the guard while the other one tied his hands with shoe laces and ordered him to lie down on the floor.

Ramphora says the guard reportedly heard a vehicle pull into the yard after the two suspects whistled a signal.

The guard claims he heard the company’s entrance door slide open and within seconds heard a forklift started.

He allegedly waited until it was quiet before he alerted the security at a company close by, who then called the police.

When one of the company employees arrived at the scene, they discovered the office’s burglar bars were off and the window was broken.

The store room’s door was forced open and several equipment including two laptops worth R20 000 and a monitor worth R1 500 was stolen.

Ramphora says the suspects also took a white Nissan Hardbody and a Toyota Quantum during the business robbery.

A tracking company traced the Nissan Hardbody to the Volsloorus Shopping Mall.
