Still no solution to sewage problem

Mieta Khosi (71), from Presidentia, is still living with the horrible stench of sewage.

It was reported in last week’s Addie (‘Presidentia stinks) how Khosi was battling to get the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to tend to an overflowing manhole on her property.

“This manhole has been a problem for more than a year now and I don’t understand why it takes the Ekurhuleni Metro so long to find a solution to the problem,” she says.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says the metro opened the drain to fix the problem but soon thereafter received another complaint about it and the line was found to be blocked again.

“Our workers reopened the sewage line again on September 9,” he says.

Gadebe says they will continue to monitor the line.

“We will also start the process to procure a contractor to do the necessary repairs to what we suspect is a damaged part of the line,” he concludes.
