SBHS learners return from overseas summit

Learners from Springs Boys' High School recently visited the United States of America for the People to People Leadership Summit at Harvard University.

The 22 learners were accompanied by educators Shannon Freeman and Leandre French and departed for Boston on June 28.

Upon arrival in Boston, they had time to explore the lively streets of the city.

The People to People Leadership Summit commenced the next day, where the learners were exposed to team building, community outreach programmes, leadership workshops and socialising with learners from all around the world.

This was an opportunity for personal growth and a chance to share South African cultures with a variety of people.

The group was lucky enough to have been in Boston on July 4 for the Independence Day celebrations.

This involved a night alongside the Charles River with a display of fireworks and music from the Boston Pops Orchestra.

At the end of the summit, the group departed for Washington DC where they spent most of their time at the Air and Space Museum as well as the Natural History Museum.

They also walked along the National Mall and admired the monuments dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, the troops of World War Two and the White House, to name only a few.

“Overall, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity that the learners of Springs Boys’ High School will cherish forever,” says Shannon.

She adds that many of the learners have brought back new skills and ideas and that they look forward to seeing the implementation of what the learners have gained.

“Thank you to the management of Springs Boys’ High School for making the trip a possibility,” she said.

This was the second time learners from Springs Boys’ High School attended the summit, last year having been the first.
