Gugulethu tavern shooting leaves three injured

Three people were injured when a gang of 10 men opened fire on a tavern in the Gugulethu informal settlement on Friday.

A tavern owner and his friends were sitting outside the tavern enjoying a drink at 7.15pm, when they heard gunshots.

All of them fled in different directions.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says before fleeing the scene, the tavern owner claims he saw 10 men armed with different guns approaching his tavern.

The robbers took cash from the tavern, jumped into two unknown vehicles and drove off.

Ramphora says when the owner returned to his tavern, he noticed three injured men lying on the floor.

He called an ambulance and the SAPS.

Paramedics treated the injured men at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital.

A case of business robbery and attempted murder was opened at the police station.
