The police received information on a stolen Mazda 323 a community member spotted in the CBD at 1pm.
The suspect noticed the police and fled.
Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphjora says the police chased the vehicle and finally caught up with it in Selcourt.
A 49-year-old suspect was arrested for theft of motor vehicle and taken to the Springs police cells.
He will appear in court soon.
Ramphora says they are still investigating the case to find out who the owner of the vehicle is and where it was stolen.
