This September ER24 wants to raise awareness of oral health and the benefits of good oral hygiene.
Periodontitis, or gum disease, is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and destroys the bones that support your teeth.
Periodontitis can cause tooth loss, increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke and other serious health problems.
Here are some interesting facts:
- 8.25% of adults have severe gum disease
- 92% of adults have had cavities in their permanent teeth
- 16.2% of children have untreated cavities
- 25% of adults do not brush twice a day
- 33.3% of adults have never flossed
- 74% of adults have had a tooth extracted
How to avoid gum disease:
- Use a soft bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
- Rinse your mouth with mouthwash.
- Floss at least once a day.
