Suspect assaults couple

Three suspects held up a couple and their domestic worker during a house robbery in Winterberg Street in Modder East on Tuesday.

A man woke up to the sound of a light switch at 2.30am and noticed two men entering his bedroom.

One of the men was armed with a gun. Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says the husband was taken from the bedroom and that the armed suspect pointed a gun at his head.

The other unarmed suspect assaulted the victim by kicking and hitting him.

One suspect stayed with the victim while the other suspect left the room. Ramphora says the victim claims he heard a third voice in the house who demanded cash from his wife.

The suspects threatened the woman and the domestic worker with the gun.

The house was ransacked and the suspects took a laptop, two TVs, two cellphones and loaded it into the victim’s car, a white Chevrolet, and drove off.

No shots were fired.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Springs Police Station.
