Paid to talk

Kwatsaduza - From afar, being paid to talk and play music seems like a fun job to do.

According eKFM deejay Gopolang ‘DSG’ Dintwe (27), being a radio personality is the same as any other job, and entails a lot of planning and dedication.

The local radio deejay hosts a weekend drive time show from 3pm to 6pm, which he also produces and hosts.

He has no formal training and started working on the radio in 2011 after years of trying to get into broadcasting.

Dintwe, who matriculated at Setlopo High School in Mafikeng, is currently studying radio production through Intec College.

“It is vital that students who want to pursue a career in radio, be it production or presenting, should get formal training so they can understand the way everything works in the industry,” says Dintwe.

Dintwe advises young people to start mastering their craft at an early age and to prepare themselves for the radio station they want to work for.

He adds the most important attributes to have is self confidence and a love for the job.

DSG says he’s inspired by different deejays who bring in their special talents and personality to their shows and are not afraid to try something new.

His future plans involve him being a drive time show host for Motsweding FM and producing shows for other radio personalities.
