Learn to use electricity safely

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) and Eskom are on a drive to educate communities about the basics of safe electricity usage as part of the National Electricity Safety Week that runs from August 11 to 21.

Ekurhuleni residents will be educated on safe electricity usage and the risks of electricity theft including meter tampering, by-passing and illegal connections.

“A 10-year-old boy recently died due to illegal connections and this is an unfortunate regular occurrence where innocent lives are lost as a consequence of the unsafe use of electricity,” says Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the EMM.

“It is a fact that electricity is dangerous, particularly when connections are done irregularly and Ekurhuleni residents need to be educated about this reality.

“One fatality as a result of the unsafe use of electricity is one too many,” Gadebe adds.

The EMM and officials from Eskom will be giving talks and distributing promotional items at the following areas:
