Where to get your wheelie bin

The City of Ekurhuleni continues to roll out the more hygienic and environmentally friendly 240 litre refuse bins to Springs residents.

August 22 will mark another phase of the roll-out in other parts of the Springs area until the end of September.

The new bins are free of charge and refuse removal services will be charged as per the municipal tariff schedule.

Of great importance to note is that as from October 1, the municipality will only collect refuse placed in these containers which display the EMM logo.

“This means that refuse removal officials will no longer pick up additional refuse bags, branches or any other form of refuse placed on top of or next to the refuse bins,” says Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

Residents who generate in excess of 240 litres of refuse per week on their premises can apply to the Springs Waste Management depot for additional bins at Stadium Road, Geduld Extension Four, during weekdays from 7am to 4pm.

The depot can be contacted on 011 999 8497/8425

To collect the bins, residents are requested to produce a copy of the ID document belonging to the Ekurhuleni municipal account holder and their latest utility account (rates and taxes).

“The changeover from the plastic bag system to the 240 litre wheelie bin system is in progress throughout the metro in order to eliminate some operational and service delivery inefficiencies, and more importantly to enhance legislative compliance with regard to service standards and cost reflectiveness of the Waste Management Service’s tariff structure,” Gadebe says.

The 240 litre bins should be placed out for removal no later than 7am on the scheduled day for refuse removal as per the municipality’s colour coded refuse removal calendar.
