Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the incident took place at a tavern on Sunday at around 8.45pm.
He says the suspect came into a tavern and instructed the DJ to change the music, claiming it was not good enough for the audience.
Ramphora says an argument between the tavern owner and the suspect started and the suspect took an amplifier and ran away.
Police are investigating a case of theft and no arrests have been made.
