Refuse bins can be marked

The metro will remove any number of municipal bins placed out for removal.

Following queries from residents regarding the new wheelie bins, it has been confirmed that residents are allowed to mark their refuse bins to enable them to identify them.

According to the Ekurhuleni metro spokesman, Themba Gadebe, it is not a problem if residents want to mark their bins for identification.

Springs resident Bob Gillies says the bins only take about three full black bags, therefore he is not sure what residents who use more than three refuse bags will do.

He wants to know if those households need to get another wheelie bin.

Gadebe says if a household generates in excess of 240 litres of refuse per week, the residents should apply for an additional bin from the Springs Waste Management Depot.

Residents are allowed to have as many bins as they need, however, it must be noted that they will levied per bin whether it is placed out for removal or not.

The metro will remove any number of municipal bins placed out for removal.

The declared tariff of R129.99 excluding VAT, will be levied for every bin registered to a premises.

Gadebe says the community should take note that there is no charge for the supply of the bin, the only charge is the declared tariff which will be levied monthly.

The levy will appear on the residents monthly municipal statement.

He says residents should contact the depot to make the necessary arrangements for delivery of bins or to collect bins.

The depot is in Stadium Road, New Era.
