Merry Christmas in July

The event was a joint venture between the Addie and The Avenues Shopping Centre where it was held.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas in July without Father Christmas going ‘ho ho ho’.

Father Christmas, aka Wandile Mdluli (42), traveled all the way from a cold and windy Soweto to visit the children in Springs.

He was the center of attention and the children posed happily with him for photographs.

The planned rooftop market moved inside the shopping centre due to rainy weather conditions.

The flea market and food stalls were well supported by shoppers.

Aside from meeting Father Christmas, the children were also entertained by a busker, a woman on stilts and game shows.

There was also a treasure hunt which was enjoyed by everyone and the winner will be announced at a later stage.

The Christian Dance Academy performed several dances, including the Zumba, a fitness dance routine.

During their performance, Daniel Seleme, Caxton Digital assistant manager, jumped in to show off his dance moves.

Two charity organisations, Vita Nova Centre and the Springs SPCA, will benefit from the money raised through the selling of the stalls at the event.

The Avenues management would like to thank everyone involved for making this day possible.

“We are grateful to all the tenants who sponsored prizes, including Springs residents and stall holders who made this day a huge success,” says Dawn Gradidge.

She says the weather didn’t play along, but it was better than they expected.
