Conn’s renew vows onboard a ship

Fergus (85) and Anne (76) Conn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their four daughters on board a cruise ship.

The Awendgloed residents, accompanied by their daughter Sharon du Toit (58), took a trip to London.

After an 11 hour flight, the trio landed at Heathrow Airport from where they travelled to Southampton by bus, before boarding the cruise ship, MV Arcadia.

They first sailed to the Mediterranean for 17 days before returning to Southampton where their two other daughters, Alicia Vermaak (54) and, Springs resident, Patsy van der Merwe (59) joined them.

The fourth sister Coleen Karragiannes (55) is the human resource manager onboard the MV Arcadia.

“It was wonderful to celebrate their wedding vow renewal ceremony with them,” said Patsy.

This trip was the first time in five years that the sisters and parents were together because Coleen lives in Birmingham, England and Alicia in Dubai.

Patsy said their brother Allen Conn (49) was unable to join them.

Nieces, nephews and friends made up the guest list and eventually Patsy walked her mother down the aisle.

All four sisters looked beautiful in their bridesmaid dresses next to an elegantly dressed bride and groom.

“It was quite an emotional moment and tears were flowing from every single eye in the chapel,” said Patsy.

Capt Aseem Hashmi, captain of the MV Arcadia stood proud, and said invaluable words before Fergus and Anne renewed their vows to each other.

As Fergus put the new ring on Anne’s finger and kissed his bride, the captain pronounced them happily re-married.

“How blessed can one be to be able to celebrate your parent’s 60th wedding anniversary with all their daughters as bridesmaids,” a radiant Patsy said.

The food at the reception was displayed in diamond shapes and the Conn’s even had a diamond shaped wedding cake.

Patsy said they are so thankful to have been able to sail with their parents to Norway after such a special occasion.

They disembarked in Southampton after a month onboard.

“It was truly the way a 60th wedding anniversary should be celebrated.”
