Residents fear possibility of truck stop

Residents are fed up with the trucks that are causing dust and havoc in Selection Park.

Bobbi Saunders, one of the residents, says she went to the municipality three months ago and complained about the trucks in Pridgeon Road that have been using the swimming pool grounds as a truck stop.

“When the wind blows, the trucks throw up all the dust which comes into our homes and onto our clean cars. Big trucks attempt to exit the property, causing major circles,” and Bobbi feels this causes a pile up of traffic as vehicles cannot get past.

She also said this poses a danger to motorists coming around the bend.

Bobbi indicated that she heard rumours that the swimming pool grounds are going to be cleared to make way for a truck stop.

“It’s sad to see the that there is such a beautiful swimming pool which has never been open in the 10 years I have lived here.”

Bobbi says the pool is overgrown and looks forlorn.

“We were all so excited when they started cutting the grass and thought that the pool will be reopened for the summer. That’s when we heard rumours that this is going to be used as a truck stop.”

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro says the swimming pool has been closed and is currently being rehabilitated.

“There is a contractor on-site who has been appointed to carry out the work required in order to open the pool in September 2016.”

Gadebe added that the pool was closed because the facility had exceeded its lifespan and required rehabilitation.

Gadebe did not respond to the possibility of a truck stop and said Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD will comment on the matter.

No response was received from Kgasago at the time of going to print.
