Council plans to bin black bags

East Geduld resident Betty Kale (56) collected her wheelie bin on Thursday.

She took her ID book and Ekurhuleni Metro account to where metro staff were distributing bins to residents, in the open area in East Geduld Road, Petersfield Extension .

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says bins are being distributed simultaneously to various areas.

The first roll-out took place on July 5.

Gadebe says because the roll-out only started recently, many areas in Springs must still be supplied with bins.

The date of implementation of the use of the bins will be announced according to the progress made with the roll-out.

Once the system is implemented, refuse not placed in the bins will not be collected.

The refuse removal trucks will be converted to only service the bins.

Ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin is pleased with the way in which the metro distributed the bins.

“Most residents managed to collect the bins,” he says

He wants to know, however, whether residents will be charged for a new bin in the event that their bin is stolen.

Gadebe says they are currently working on a press release relating to the theft of bins, but did confirm residents will be charged for replacing stolen bins.

Refuse collection days will remain as per the refuse removal calendar.
