Pedestrian killed by truck

A man was killed yesterday (Thursday) after he was hit by a truck that allegedly swerved from the road.

EMPD spokesman Clifford Shongwe says the driver of the truck claims the vehicles in front of him suddenly came to standstill.

The driver allegedly swerved to the right. He hit a cyclist first and then the pedestrian on the pavement.

The pedestrian was crushed by the truck and paramedics declared him dead on the scene.

The man was about 40 years old and his indentity is unknown.

Shongwe says the cyclist was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The truck driver is believed to be severely shocked by the incident.
