The man allegedly forced open a garage door at a home in Robertson Street at about noon and took tools to the value of R700.
A community member who walked past the house saw the man and called the homeowner.
EMPD officer Louis Els was also contacted, and he rushed to the scene and started to search for the man.
With the assistance of Braam Ras, a member of the Springs North CPF, Els spotted the man jumping a wall in Retief Street.
Els and Ras gave chase and caught the man with the stolen goods in his possession.
He was taken to the Springs Police Station and a case of house break-in and theft was opened.
