Drive safely in fog

Fog is believed to have been a contributing factor in an accident in Ermelo Road on Wednesday (July 8) between a truck and a bakkie.

The accident took place at 5.45pm, between Springs and Endicott, and the bakkie driver was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

Springs police, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department officials and traffic officials from the Lesedi Municipality were at the scene.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the front of the bakkie was completely destroyed due to the impact of the collision.

A case of reckless and neglegant driving was opened at the Springs Police Station.

No arrests have been made.

Driving in fog

Driving in foggy conditions requires special safe driving techniques to help you arrive alive.

Although mist and fog look like smoke, they are actually tiny drops of water floating in the air.

Fog is distinguished from mist only by its density, as expressed in the resulting decrease in visibility:

It reduces visibility to less than 1km, whereas mist reduces visibility to a larger distance.
