SRA working on boom gate problem

Residents of Selcourt Enclosure are concerned about the effects of load shedding on the two exit gates in the enclosure.

With the recent completion of a new development, residents claim there are going to be at least 64 additional motor vehicles, if not more, in the area.

Resident Bruce Gardner says when load shedding occurs, the two exit gates at Phoenix and Lonely roads have to close for security reasons, making all the traffic, either entering or leaving the suburb, travel through the Itogen Road gate near Selcourt Primary School.

“This is going to delay movement through that gate tremendously,” he adds.

Between 7am and 8am, traffic at Itogen and Charterland roads is already hectic due to learners arriving at Selcourt Primary School and enclosure residents leaving for work.

Gardner claims he has not seen any Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department officials there for some time.

He hopes they are planning to assist with this serious traffic problem.

Selcourt Residents’ Association treasurer Mike du Toit says the closure of gates due to load shedding is a temporary measure.

The association‘s committee is currently busy with a project that will ensure the booms are powered regardless of load shedding.

“I am sure the project will be completed before the new development fills up,” adds du Toit.
