Operation Snowdrop in action

The children's ward at Far East Rand Hospital gets a facelift.

The children’s ward at the Far East Rand Hospital received a welcome makeover thanks to Operation Snowdrop and volunteers from FNB last Thursday (June 19).

Operation Snowdrop representative Tasmond Ayre says with the support of the FNB volunteers and the expertise of Judi Jones, they painted the children’s ward.

Judi, who is an artist, says Ina MacDonald from Operation Snowdrop asked for her help in making a difference at the hospital.

She was eager to assist with transforming the walls into bright and colourful creations.

Judi explains colours have a psychological impact.

Blue gives a cooling effect whereas green is about growth and renewal.

The volunteers helped in creating a bright and happy facility for the sick children by painting smiley faces on the walls.

Wesley Pretorius, a volunteer, says the project was all about giving back to the community.

With the assistance of Tinus Boshoff and Mark Meyer, they pasted happy figures on the glass doors and windows.

In the burn section, the walls were painted blue, and the walls in the orthopaedic ward, green.

They have also put up blinds in the duty room and isolation ward.

Everyone is happy to make a difference in the lives of the children in the wards.
