Shop robbed of cellphones

A man wearing a balaclava robbed a business of cellphones on Wednesday (June 10) in Bakerton.

The man entered the business in First Avenue, at 10.30am, and pointed a gun at the owner.

The robber ordered the owner to go to his office and then closed the door.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the owner looked through the door’s keyhole and saw the robber at the cellphone cabinet.

When the owner started screaming, the robber took off.

The owner opened the office door and chased after the robber.

Ramphora says when the owner closed in on the robber, he took off the balaclava and a knife fell to the ground.

The robber fled with seven cellphones in the direction of Gugulethu/Everest.
