Woman’s body found in burnt-out shack

The body of a woman was found at the scene of a shack fire in the Daggafontein Informal Settlement this morning (June 9).

The Ekurhuleni Emergency Services from KwaThema responded to the call at 7.15am.

When they arrived at the scene, the shack was ablaze and the structure had already collapsed.

The woman’s body was discovered after the fire was extinguished

The woman is believed to be the shack owner’s wife. He had left for work before the fire started.

Witnesses at the scene were unable to say where he is employed.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police officials also arrived on the scene, and immediately notified Springs police.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora was not available for comment at the time of publishing.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
