Another body found at Erwat

Another body was discovered by workers in a dam at the Erwat plant in Welgedacht on Monday afternoon (June 1).

This follows the discovery of a man’s body in the same dam on May 27.

The latest discovery was made by workers conducting routine checks at the dam at around 6.10pm.

Springs police, the EMPD and the Ekurhuleni Search and Rescue team arrived on the scene at 6.20pm, but were unable to retrieve the body in the dark.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the teams returned to the scene on Tuesday at 7am, to retrieve the body.

He says the body is that of an unknown man with a bullet wound to the face.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesman William Ntladi says the rescue team used a crane to retrieve the body.

The team handed the body over to police and forensic tests will be done to establish the cause of death.

No identification was found on the body and no missing person report has been filed at the Springs police station.
