Learners visit N17 Hospital to learn about careers

The N17 Hospital opened its doors to seven matric learners today (May 28) to give them exposure to the world of work.

The hospital‘s regular participation in the Take A Girl Child To Work Day campaign supports the need to expose girls to the reality of the work environment, as well as provide them with career information and a sense of empowerment in the decisions that they make about their future careers.

Occupational health and safety sister Noami Berger says this event is held to create awareness among learners about careers in the exciting field of nursing.

This year, seven girls from Geluksdal Secondary School, Dr Johan Jurgens High School and Springs Girls‘ High School, arrived at the hospital, eager to find out more about different career options.

Lauren Sass (18) from Geluksdal Secondary School says she knows she isn’t suited for nursing, but she still enjoyed the tour around the hospital.

Springs Girls’ High School learner Evana Padi (17) says she has always been interested in the medical field.

She would like to become a nursing sister, and then specialise in gynaecology.

Radiography is the career choice of Geluksdal Secondary School learner Malehlolonolo Moitso (17).

“I understand now that there are different things to consider when looking at career options,” she says.

Dr Johan Jurgens High School learner Karabo Moletsane (17) says she wants to follow a career in dentistry.

Her ‘dream come true’ would be to first become a nursing sister, and then a dental assistant.
