Court will decide if bail will be granted

ID parade for two suspects will take place on Friday (May 29).

Two Springs detectives and two police informers briefly appeared in the Carltonville Magistrate Court on Wednesday (May 28) on charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.

The bail application hearing of two of the suspects, a detective and informer, was postponed to Tuesday, June 2.

Senior prosecutor Victor Simelane says their bail application has not yet been finalised.

He says two of the suspects, accused number three and four, were due to appear in an ID parade, but because there legal representatives weren’t in court, this has been postponed to Friday (May 29).

Simelane states the informer, who turned state witness, was the one who came forward on May 4, when he notified his neighbour about the murders in Carltonville on April 17.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the killing of three suspects allegedly at the hands of two constables from the Springs Police Detective Services.

It is alleged that on April 17 they were investigating a business robbery, after which they arrested four suspects and tortured one who later died.

The suspects took the body to Pholosong Hospital, but the hospital refused to admit him as he was already dead.

Dlamini says the deceased was allegedly loaded into a police vehicle and taken to Carletonville, which is quite a distance from Springs.

The policemen allegedly shot at the other suspects, killing two of them.

One was left for dead, but survived and crawled to a nearby road for help.

“The bodies of the deceased were dumped at different locations,” says Dlamini.

The charges against the four suspects are three counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping, one count of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.
